Garrett, Kid Subjects of Museum\'s Living History Performances

Las Cruces, N.M. - The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum will have two living history performances as part of the New Mexico Department of Tourism\'s \"Catch the Kid\" program, a statewide Billy the Kid scavenger hunt.

The performances are from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. Regular museum admission ($5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children 5 to 17) is required.

Billy the Kid will make a cameo appearance in \"The Reign of the Six-Shooter,\" which will be in the Mercantile in the Heritage Gallery. Andrea Severson will portray 15-year-old Lily Casey who found herself near the center of the Lincoln County War. Safe in her father\'s store, she explains how the local economic conflict spiraled out of control and introduces one of the combatants, a cattle rustler named Billy the Kid. The 10- to 15-minute performances begin at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Museum visitors on Aug. 27 also will get to meet Pat Garrett in \"Deeds of Daring and Blood,\" which will take place at the chuck wagon near the museum\'s Dairy Barn. Garrett did many great things in his life, but is remembered most as the man who killed Billy the Kid. Visit with Garrett as he discusses his illustrious life and reluctantly tells the tale of how one William Bonney was finally brought to justice. This 15- to 20-minute performance features Scott Green as Pat Garrett. Performances are 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30.

The museum\'s Pat Garrett exhibit also is on display. It features items donated to the museum by Garrett\'s granddaughters, including a clay bust of Garrett, two letters that he wrote and a photograph of him.
