Twenty Four Louisiana Artists Selected
For Nationally Acclaimed Workshop
New Orleans, February 23, 2012: The Creative Alliance of New Orleans and Moving Stories Dance Project present the Creative Capital Professional Development Workshop March 9-11, 2012 at the Joan Mitchell Center at 2275 Bayou Road.
Twenty-four artists from around Louisiana have been selected by a committee of leaders in the New Orleans\' arts communities to participate in a nationally recognized training workshop tailored to cultural and creative artists and producers. This workshop is a three day retreat on March 9-11th, 2012. Creative Capital acts as a catalyst for the development of adventurous and imaginative ideas by supporting artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual arts, film and video, and in emerging fields. Creative Capital is committed to working in partnership with the artists it funds, providing advisory services and professional development assistance along with multi-faceted financial aid and promotional support throughout the life of each Creative Capital project.
\"This is an extraordinary opportunity for our local cultural and creative artists and producers,\" said Jeanne Nathan, Executive Director of the Creative Alliance of New Orleans. \"Making sure our creative artists can realize their full potential is core to the mission of the Creative Alliance of New Orleans, so we are very pleased to be selected to partner with Creative Capital for this workshop. We hope we can build on this opportunity to provide sustained training programs to help our artists contribute to the growth of New Orleans as a world recognized center of the creative industries.\" said Nathan.
\"There are many workshops that offer business training, but few that specialize in training creative producers,\" said Stephanie McKee of Moving Stories Dance Project. \"Creative Capital Workshop trainers are national leaders in their fields who present the nation\'s best practices in artistic management.\"
Creative Capital has worked with over 4,000 artists in more than 65 communities around the nation, including in Baton Rouge. This is the first workshop they have presented in New Orleans. \"We are very impressed with the growth of the creative economy in New Orleans,\" said Krista Fabian DeCastro of Creative Capital. \"There is a cultural renaissance in progress here matched by few other cities in the country. We hope our workshop will help sustain this trend, and assure that artists based in New Orleans will reap the benefits of the growth in the creative community and economy. This can only happen if artists have the tools and skills it takes to manage artistic careers, projects, and enterprises.\"
The Joan Mitchell Foundation provided funding for the workshop and will host the workshop at its new Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans. \"Since we opened our center on Bayou Road we have been working closely with many artists and cultural organizations that we know will benefit from the Creative Capital Workshop,\" said the Carolyn Somers, Director of Joan Mitchell Foundation. \"There is an amazing pool of talent here. The workshop\'s training will better position the city\'s creatives to find and develop opportunities in the city\'s growing cultural and entertainment production and digital communities,\" said Sommers.
