New visitor campaign - London, Now see it for yourself
London & Partners has launched the new visitor campaign ‘London, Now see it for yourself’ which aims to capitalise on the success of summer 2012 by converting viewers into visitors. The face of the campaign, Rufus the Corgi, will help visitors to explore a specially designed digital map and microsite on the new and improved visitlondon.com site. Designed and beautifully hand drawn by artist Jenni Sparks, the map for London shows key attractions across the capital and gives a guide to what’s new for 2013, as well as highlighting some of the city’s hidden gems. V&A Opens New Permanent Furniture Gallery
Opening on 1 December 2012, the V&A will open its new Furniture Gallery in December, providing a permanent home for the Museum’s internationally renowned furniture collection. The Museum has always displayed furniture in other galleries, but this will be the first ever V&A gallery dedicated to furniture and the only gallery worldwide devoted to a comprehensive display of furniture, telling the story of its production across six centuries. The 39 Steps Celebrates 6th Birthday in the West End
The 39 Steps, now celebrating its sixth year in the West End, has grossed over twenty million pounds since it opened at the Criterion Theatre in 2006. It is now the longest running consecutive show in the theatre’s 137 year history. Based on John Buchan’s 1914 spy thriller The Thirty Nine Steps, the cast of four take on an incredible 139 roles in the 100 minute production. Douglas Hodge to Play Willy Wonka
Olivier and Tony Award-winning actor Douglas Hodge will play Willy Wonka in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which opens at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 25th June next year. Treasures Gallery
The brand new Treasures Gallery will open on 30 November at Natural History Museum. The new gallery will give visitors access to 22 of the most extraordinary specimens that have ever been on display at the museum. Each object has been hand-picked by expert scientists for the fascinating story it has to tell. Highlights include an original set of dinosaur teeth, archaeopteryx (a limestone slab containing the fossil of the earliest known bird at around 147 million years old) and Darwin’s On the Origin of Species – a rare first edition of one of the most influential books of all time. A Bigger Splash: Painting After Performance at the Tate Modern
Taking place at the Tate Modern from 14 November 2012 – 1 April 2013
A Bigger Splash: Painting After Performance will take examine the dynamic relationship between performance and painting from 1950 to the present day. Taking its title from David Hockney’s iconic 1967 image of a Californian swimming pool and Jack Hazan’s film about Hockney’s life, it will bring together a range of key works by over 40 artists including Yves Klein, Jackson Pollock and Cindy Sherman. Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum
In Spring 2013 the British Museum will present a major exhibition on the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, sponsored by Goldman Sachs. This exhibition will be the first ever held on these important cities at the British Museum, and the first such major exhibition in London for almost 40 years. It is the result of close collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendency of Naples and Pompeii, will bring together over 250 fascinating objects, many of these objects have never before been seen outside Italy.
