Argentina is one of the largest countries in Latin America. The country is located in several natural zones: subtropical, plateau, steppe, cooler areas. Initially, before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16 th century, there lived numerous Indian tribes. For several centuries Spanish conquerors tried to convert them into slavery. But proud Indians died, but refused to become slaves. Then the Spaniards killed the original inhabitants, and their lands were declared a property of the Spanish crown. Conquerors believed that these lands conceal huge deposits of silver, therefore, have named the country \"Argentina\" (from Latin- \"Argentum\" - \"silver\"). Silver was not founded, but the name of the country remained. The most valuable, as it turned out –are vast expanses of fertile land, pastures. The country went through a rapid historical development, numerous revolutions, wars for independence, dictatorship, military conflicts with neighbors. In the first quarter of the 19th century it has became independent. In the early 80-ies of the 20 th century, Argentina was at war with Britain, trying to prove their rights to the Falkland Islands, but lost. In the 90 years of the 20 th century democratic forces came to power in the country, and political situation in the country has stabilized. The population of Argentine is people from different countries of Europe, but part of the population is people of mixed parentage (mixed with descendants of Spaniards).
